SMFED.HBRI
Research Division Focusing on Innovative Ideas
We are SMFED.HBRI (Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering Division) of Housing and Building Research Institute Under the Ministry of Housing and Public Works, an interdisciplinary Research Division based in Dhaka, Bangladesh. We investigate novel concepts that underlie the complexities of our field. Our research is supported by funding from the government and a number of foundations.
Research Projects
Our Current Focus
Effects of Liquefaction
This research project focuses on the consequences of soil liquefaction and the liquefaction-induced lateral spreading. A finite element based numerical approach is used to simulate the dynamic behavior of soil and soil-structure interaction.
Ground Improvement using geo-polymer
This research project aims to develop an innovative and low-cost ground improvement technique. The primary purpose of the ground improvement is to increase the bearing capacity of the soil as well as to mitigate the effects of soil liquefaction.
Correlation among CPT ( Cone Penetration Test), SPT (Standard Penetration Test) and DCPT (Dynamic Cone Penetration Test)
SPT and CPT are the commonly used field test in the field of geotechnical engineering. DCPT is commonly used in road construction. The objective of this research is to correlate all these three tests in Bangladesh perspective so that any kind of test can be used to predict the mechanical properties of soil.
Seismic performance evaluation of typical residential RC buildings at different soil types with seismic zones in Bangladesh
Using the average N-SPT (N30) value the seismic performance level of the buildings was estimated using the capacity spectrum method and compared with the results of the non-linear pushover analysis.
